And we’re live with Ilya, who is the co-founder of Near Protocol, a sharded blockchain that was launched in late 2020. In this interview, Ilya discusses his background and how he got involved with blockchain technology.
Ilya is originally from Ukraine, and he started programming at a young age. He had a passion for building video games and solving complex problems. In university, he became interested in artificial intelligence (AI) and believed it was the future of humanity. He even got a job in a US company working remotely in machine learning and AI.
Later on, Ilya joined Google, where he worked on deep learning and natural language understanding. He was part of a team that built the architecture for these technologies, which are widely used today, such as Google Translate and OpenAI’s GPT-3.
Despite enjoying his work at Google, Ilya felt that the company was becoming too slow and going in the wrong direction. This led him to see an opportunity in blockchain technology. He partnered with Alex to work on an AI project and eventually started Near Protocol.
One of the main motivations behind Near Protocol was to enable everyone to build software and benefit from blockchain technology. Ilya believes that blockchain allows small pieces of software to have great value and wanted to create a platform that allows anyone to build and contribute.
They also faced the challenge of paying people from different countries for their contributions, which led them to explore blockchain as a solution. They initially looked at Ethereum but found it costly and not user-friendly. After exploring various blockchain options, they decided to build Near Protocol, which aims to provide a more efficient and open marketplace for contributions, with a focus on accessibility and usability.
In conclusion, Ilya’s journey from programming video games to working on deep learning at Google eventually led him to co-found Near Protocol. His experience in AI and his belief in the potential of blockchain technology have driven him to create a platform that aims to empower people to build and contribute to the blockchain ecosystem.

Quand le co founder dit qu'il est pas si bon que ça en tant que dev et que c'est pour ça qu'il s'occupe de la partie business c'est pas très rassurant…
Ça couplé au fait que la mascotte du projet soit en fait issu d'une blague et que leur choix d'appeler leur token Near n'aide beaucoup au référencement sur google me laissent assez sceptique quant au succès du projet
A voir si Aurora reussira à attirer des dapps malgré la domination de polygon dans le marché des L2
